Description
Bosworgey House is a farmhouse that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and was enlarged in the mid to late 19th century, with few later alterations. The building is constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, featuring granite and brick dressings. It has a roof made of slate and asbestos slate, complete with ridge tiles and gable ends, and gable end and axial stacks with rebuilt brick shafts.
The house has a double depth plan with a central entrance, and the principal rooms are located to the front left and right. The service rooms, including the kitchen and dairy, are situated at the rear. An additional one-room plan was added to the left end around the mid to late 19th century, heated by a gable end stack.
The exterior of the original building presents a symmetrical two-storey front with three windows. The ground floor features a 20th-century porch with a pitched roof and a 20th-century internal door. There are 18th-century 12-pane sash windows with sidelights and cambered arches on both the right and left sides at the ground and first floors. The first floor also has a central 12-pane sash window. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. There is a straight masonry joint in the front wall leading to the left addition, which has a similar but 19th-century 12-pane sash with sidelights and cambered arches at both levels.
The right side of the building is rendered and has a single ventilator window at both the ground and first floors. The left side is blind and constructed from rubble. At the rear, the service rooms have random window placements; the first floor has three 12-pane sashes with cambered brick arches and one single light, while the ground floor includes a 2-light casement and two 20th-century windows and a door. There is also a 20th-century lean-to on the left side, which is a single storey, and an attached cast iron pump with a handle and fluted finial.
Inside, the entrance hall features a straight stair at the rear with turned balusters. The front right room contains a cupboard with scalloped decoration at the rear. The interior has plain plaster cornices and six-panelled doors. There are two dairies at the rear, both with slate floors and shelves.
