Description
East Lodge is a lodge for Carnanton House, dating from the early 19th century and featuring few later alterations. It is built of slatestone rubble with granite dressings and has a hipped roof covered in bitumenised slate. The building has a three-room plan, with a central entrance that leads directly into the main room, which is canted at the front. There are small rooms on either side and a small 20th-century addition at the rear.
The exterior is single-storey and sits on a plinth. The front features a canted bay and a central early 19th-century four-panelled door flanked by pilasters and topped with a granite cornice on consoles. There are early 19th-century 12-pane sash windows to the right and left of the door, and each wing has an early 19th-century 12-pane sash window with voussoirs and a keystone. The right side has an additional early 19th-century 12-pane sash window, while the left side also has an early 19th-century 12-pane sash and a blocked window to the left. The rear includes the single-storey 20th-century addition. Inside, the central room features a slate chimney-piece at the rear.
