Description
The Hermitage is a house that likely dates from the early to mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of painted stone rubble, with the left side rendered. The house features a thatched roof with gable ends and has gable end stacks with brick shafts. The layout consists of a two-room plan with an entrance located between the two rooms, each of which is heated by a gable end stack. The room on the left is larger than the one on the right, and the entrance is off-centre to the right, accessed through a porch. At the rear, there is a later unheated outshut used for service rooms.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical three-window front, with all windows being varied casements from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The ground floor features a 20th-century half-glazed door within an open-fronted gabled thatched porch. To the right of the door is a two-light, two-pane casement, and to the left is a two-light, six-pane casement with left hinges. The first floor has two two-light casements. On the left side of the house, there is a 20th-century window at ground floor level on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
