Description
The Old Malt House is a malt house that has also been used as a shop and parish room. It is dated around 1825 and has had later alterations and additions. The building is constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, featuring granite quoins, and has a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles.
The structure is long and rectangular, with outshuts along the left side. It stands two storeys tall. The front has double doors on the ground floor, and above them is a segmental arch from a former door opening, which includes a datestone. The first floor features a 2-light, 6-pane casement window with granite jambs.
On the left side, there are two single-storey outshuts with doors and various 20th-century windows, including a 4-light window at the front of the outshut. At the first floor level, there is a similar 2-light casement and two rows of blocked square pigeon holes. The right side has one ground floor window with iron and wooden stanchions and shutters, featuring a dressed stone segmental arch and keystone, and a 2-light casement window on the first floor. The malt house is built into the bank at the rear, with a 2-pane light featuring stone jambs at the upper level. The interior has not been inspected.
