Description

Number 17 is a house dating from the early 19th century, featuring roughcast walls with limestone dressings, gable-end stacks, and a pantile roof. It has a single-depth plan and is designed in a late Georgian style. The building stands two storeys high with a basement and has a three-window range, along with a single-storey and basement, two-window range block to the left. Positioned at right angles to the road and backing into the hill, the garden front showcases pilasters beneath a moulded coping and coped gables. A full-width 20th-century ground-floor verandah supported by timber columns features shallow segmental arches. The central basement and ground-floor have half-glazed doors, with 10/10-pane sashes in the basement, canted ground-floor bays with 8/8-pane sashes, and 8/8-pane first-floor sashes in flush boxes, with the side ones being bowed. The left-hand block includes a garage door on the right, a half-glazed door on the left, and 8/8-pane ground-floor sashes. The street elevation displays a right-hand pedimented doorcase with a 5-light fanlight and a 6-panel door. Inside, there is a central hall with an open-well stair leading to the back, featuring column-on-vase balusters, cornices, fireplaces, and 6-panel doors. The property also has attached brick and rubble garden walls to the east, which include a doorway to the street with a plain architrave, a panelled lintel, and a 6-panel door.
