Description

23 Broad Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, located at the north-west corner of Broad Street Place. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations in the early 19th century, late 19th century, and 20th century. The shop extends into Nos 2 and 3 Broad Street Place.

The building is constructed of limestone ashlar, which is painted on the ground floor front, and the roof is not visible. It features two tall double stacks at the former rear party walls. The structure is three storeys high with a two-window front. There is a coped parapet that is not returned, and a moulded string course separates the upper floors, which is returned to the right as a plain band. The upper floors have paired two/one pane sash windows with shared sills. The first and ground floors to the right have early 18th-century chamfered rusticated quoins.

A simple cornice and fascia sit above a half-glazed door with a three-pane overlight to the left. Steps lead out over a shop window that has two plate glass panes with small upper panes, supported on brackets. The right return features 19th-century and 20th-century windows and a door. The interior has not been inspected.
