Description

31 Galgate is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 19th century and features a late 19th-century shop front along with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone, with ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a roof made of thin stone slates, which includes stone gable coping, a stone ridge, and both stone and rendered chimneys. The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The full-width shop front projects outwards and includes a central recess with a door on the left side and a former central door that has been blocked. The shop front features plate-glass windows and a cornice above the fascia. The first-floor sashes have been renewed and are framed by projecting stone surrounds. The low-pitched roof has gable coping on the right side, supported by a moulded kneeler, and features end chimneys—one made of coursed squared stone and the other rendered, both topped with stone coping. The interior has not been inspected.
