Description
This building, located at 29 Galgate in Barnard Castle, is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the late 18th century, with a shop front added in the late 19th century. The exterior is made of coursed squared stone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a roof of thin stone slates and a chimney of coursed squared stone. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, with the right bay being wider. There is a six-panel door with an overlight on the right, set in a projecting plain stone surround. The shop front on the left projects and includes a central recessed door with an overlight, flanked by two-light windows beneath a corniced shallow fascia. On the first floor, there are four-pane sash windows in projecting plain stone surrounds. The interior has not been inspected.
