Description

This icehouse, located about 120 metres north of Hunstrete House, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble with a brick lining and has a pantile roof. The main room has a pointed vault and an oblong plan, measuring approximately 4 metres by 3 metres and standing 5 metres high. To the north, there is a 10-metre long tunnel that is about 1.5 metres wide, with rubble walls and a flagstone ceiling. A plain square opening is situated high in the gable end of the vaulted main room, leading into a small gabled shed that features a plain door. The entire structure, except for the shed, is covered by a large mound of insulating earth.
