Description

A pair of attached houses, dating from the mid-18th century, with later 20th-century alterations, and incorporating some earlier building to the rear. The houses are constructed of rubble, rendered, with slate roofs featuring gable stacks and pantiled roofs to the rear. Rear wings create a U-shaped plan. The Old School House, on the left, is two storeys high with two windows. It features sash windows in raised architraves with cills; a round-headed architrave frames the 4-panelled and glazed front door, which has a blocked fanlight. The render is lined, with raised long and short quoins, and the eaves are supported by corbels. The Firs, to the right, is also two storeys high and has two windows, similar in style to the Old School House, except that it has two ground-floor windows instead of one, and a 6-panelled front door with decorative leading in the fanlight. The left return has a 2-light casement window at ground floor, a door, and a single light window at first floor. The right return is hipped to the right and has a single-storey lean-to in the angle with a rear wing, along with a 2-light casement window at first floor. The rear of the Old School House includes a two-storey 18th-century wing, forming a two-span roof, a 20th-century window, a single-storey 20th-century addition, and a single-storey lean-to between the wings, containing two 2-light casements. The rear of The Firs features two 2-light casements at both ground and first floors, along with a single-storey lean-to to the left containing a 20th-century door. The interior was not inspected.
