Description
The Old School House is a detached house dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble, with the upper part of the right gable rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features 19th-century brick gable stacks and coped verges. The building is a plain rectangular block situated on a hillside, which creates a cellar in the left half. There is a later single-storey addition on the left, as well as a lean-to addition on the right and a parallel range at the back, though these later additions are not of special interest.
The house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a total of four windows. All windows are 9-pane sash style, set in plain stone painted surrounds with stone cills, except for the second bay at the first floor, which has no window. The basement features a pair of 20th-century sliding garage doors. Each gable has a 2-light wood casement that lights the attic. A 20th-century door provides entry through the lean-to on the right gable. There is a continuous moulded drip above both the ground and first-floor windows. The lower wing on the left has one sash window in a surround similar to the main block, along with a large 20th-century paned casement. The building is prominently located on the old road that rises towards the south exit from the village.
