Description
This building is a folly tower located approximately 15 meters to the west of Chewton Place in Compton Dando. It dates from the late 18th century and is designed as a tall, tapering square obelisk made of coursed limestone rubble. The tower features pointed-arched openings on the east and west sides, creating a walk-through passage at ground floor level. It has diagonal buttresses with set-offs and small pointed-arched openings on each face, topped with a pyramidal cap. Notably, there is a carved owl on the keystone of the arched opening. Locally, this structure is known as the Owl Tower. Prior to a boundary change, it was listed under the Keynsham Area.
