Description

A row of three houses, dated 1824 to number 7, were damaged in the 1968 floods and later restored in the late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of un-coursed rubble with stone dressings, ashlar copings, and a gabled pantile roof, featuring three brick stacks: two on the ridge and one at the south end gable. They have double-depth plans.

Number 6 is a two-storey, one-window range property, with a door to the left and windows to the right. Numbers 7 and 8 are two-storey, two-window range properties, featuring symmetrical facades with central doorways and windows on either side. All windows are two-light casements set in shallow reveals, topped with segmental-arched heads and sills. There are central, blocked window openings on the first floor of numbers 7 and 8. Doorways have early 19th century and late 20th century gabled wooden porches; the porch to number 8 includes lattice sides, a decorative arch, and a gate. Number 6 has a multi-paned late 20th century door, number 7 has a half-glazed late 20th century door and number 8 retains its original plank door. The interior has not been inspected.

The cottages were originally built by Clark, a basket maker, and were originally colourwashed. They form a group with numbers 1 to 5 (consecutive) Chew Cottages and Dapp's Hill Bridge.
