Description

Dappifer's House comprises two attached houses, dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and later in the 20th. The houses are built of squared and coursed rubble in distinct bands, with stone dressings and a gabled pantile roof with a brick stack in the middle.

The building has a range of three elements, with the central section being taller than the flanking cottages, and each dwelling having a double-depth plan. The main central facade has a doorway on the left and two bays of windows with ovolo-moulded mullions incorporating late 20th-century wooden casements in flush surrounds. The ground-floor windows are beneath flush stone relieving arches; the ground-floor window on the left is a late 20th-century replacement of three lights, with a four-light window to the right, and three-light windows to the first floor. There are two cruciform metal braces above the ground-floor windows and above the upper window to the right; a circular metal tie-beam end is located below the eaves above the doorway on the left. A late 20th-century door is set beneath a wooden lintel to the left, and a glazed plank door is set beneath a mid-20th-century flat hood supported by a return garden wall to the right. The north end return wall includes a single-light window to the attic and a two-light ovolo-moulded mullion window to the first floor. The west facade has been much restored, retaining 17th-century elements, while the east facade is entirely of the early 19th century, featuring segmental stone arches over two-light glazing-bar casements. 20th-century porches are present, except for an earlier trellised porch to the right.

The interior has not been inspected.
