SION HILL 656-1/15/1467 (South side) No.8 Sion House and attached walls and gatepiers. 12/06/50

GV II

Detached villa. C1805 with C20 additions. Probably by John Pinch. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, hipped slate roof. PLAN: L-plan. EXTERIOR: Three storeys with attic and lower ground floor, symmetrical three-window entrance front. Coped parapet, cornice and ground floor platband encircle building. Steps up to central six-panel door with margin panes and large fanlight with some ornament to glazing bars radiating from small central semicircle. Tall six/six-pane sash windows. Paired dormers to mansard roof. Garden front has full height three window bow with balconettes to first and ground floors. Lower ground floor is faced with rough ashlar. INTERIOR: Not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Rubblestone wall approx 3m high extends eastward along Sion Hill for approx 15m to meet coped rough ashlar walls that curve in to tall ashlar gatepiers with cornices, block tops and segmental arched overthrow supporting projecting lamp bracket. C20 gates.
