Description
Sion House is a detached villa built around 1805, with additions from the 20th century, likely designed by John Pinch. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and stands three storeys high, including an attic and lower ground floor. The entrance front is symmetrical with three windows and is adorned with a coped parapet, cornice, and a ground floor platband that encircles the structure. Steps lead up to a central six-panel door, which has margin panes and a large fanlight with decorative glazing bars radiating from a small semicircle. The villa has tall six-over-six pane sash windows and paired dormers in the mansard roof. The garden front showcases a full-height three-window bow with balconettes on the first and ground floors, while the lower ground floor is faced with rough ashlar.
There is a rubblestone wall approximately 3 meters high that extends eastward along Sion Hill for about 15 meters, meeting coped rough ashlar walls that curve into tall ashlar gatepiers. These gatepiers feature cornices, block tops, and a segmental arched overthrow that supports a projecting lamp bracket. The gates are from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
