Description
No. 10 Sion Hill is a house built around 1785 to 1790. It features a limestone ashlar exterior and a slate mansard roof with a dormer and a moulded stack on the left gable end. The building has a two-bay, three-storey section on the left and a single-bay, two-storey continuation on the right. The taller section has six over six pane sash windows and continuous sill bands on the upper floors that extend to the right. It also has a coped parapet, cornice, frieze, and a mansard roof with a dormer, along with a stack on the left side.
To the right, there is an elliptical arched doorway with a cobweb fanlight and a six-panel door that includes margin lights. There is a single six over six pane sash window on the first floor to the right, and some of the windows still have crown glass. The ground floor is painted, and there are railings in front of the taller part of the house.
The interior has not been inspected, but a report by the Bath Preservation Trust Interiors Survey indicates that it includes a stone stair with square rails and a mahogany handrail, Neoclassical plaster cornices, original doors, wooden fireplace surrounds (with some grates inserted in 1976), and a basement that contains a wine store and a coal store with a chute.
