Description
The property comprises a pair of semi-detached houses, originally designed as symmetrical, dating from around 1792. The houses have been altered in the mid-19th century, again in the late 19th century, and with 20th-century additions. The external walls are painted render over rubble, with No.37 having a roughcast finish and raised quoins. The roof is slate, with a steeply pitched mansard, hipped to the front of the central block, bearing a moulded stack to the party wall and to the ridge, and a gable end stack to the rear left side wing.
The front elevations of each house display two storeys and an attic, with a two-window front. There was originally a continuous parapet, a cornice band and a ground floor platband to the front, with the front and wings likely spanned by a coped parapet and cornice. A mid-19th century attic storey was added, and the parapet raised to the front and side wings; the front parapet of No.37 slopes down to the original parapet level on its right return. The parapet of No.36 is attached to No.35, which is not included as part of this listing. A late 19th century two-storey canted bay is located to the left of No.36, featuring cornices over plate glass windows; the first floor windows have segmental arches, and the ground floor windows have semicircular arches with moulded keystones. A mid-19th century high, shallow hood is supported by shaped brackets and covers the original six-panel front door, which has a plate glass window above and a leaded overlight. A 20th-century garage projects to the right. No.37 showcases two-pane sash windows with horizontal glazing bars, one to each storey of the front block and with raised surrounds. Matching paired windows are found in the attic of the left wing, along with a two-light, two-pane casement window to the first floor and a blocked window below. A late 19th century tiled pent roof, supported by a bracket, is close to the angle on the right return, with a wall to the left covering a planked door and leaded overlight. A narrow leaded window is located above the porch on the right return. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
