Description

Sion Lodge is a house that forms part of an irregular terrace, which steps uphill from the left, with its main facade facing west and a garden at the rear. It was built in 1805 and extended around 1860. The materials used include limestone ashlar, with slate and pantile roofs featuring various moulded stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with a single-storey infill.

The exterior consists of three storeys, with one window on the street front and three windows on the garden front from the 1860 extension. The 1805 section on the right is surrounded by a coped parapet and cornice, and a ground floor platband that continues around the 1860 block. The windows are plate glass sash, with one on the second floor front featuring an area raised surround and a bracketed sill. The first floor has timber infill where a large opening for a canted oriel once existed, now fitted with horizontal glazing bars and a two/two-pane triple sash window. There are three windows on the ground floor to the right, and a canted oriel on the left return at the second floor. The 1860 block to the left has a hipped pantile roof and one window on each floor. There is a single-storey infill at the south-east corner, which is said to contain a well.

The history of the house is documented in the deeds, which confirm its construction date of 1805. Initially, the projected price for the house was £500, but it eventually increased to £1,000.
