Description

Duncan Cottage is a detached house built around 1800, with a later 19th-century rear left wing. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a slate roof with moulded stacks at the returns. The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. A prostyle Tuscan porch is adorned with lead ornaments and thin iron railings, leading to a balustraded balcony above. The entrance has a six-panel door that is half-glazed, with late 19th-century cut-glass upper panels inside. The building has a coped parapet, a slightly-returned cornice, and a first-floor sill band. The horned late 19th-century plate glass sash windows have painted reveals. A French window in the centre of the first floor opens onto the roof of the porch. Additionally, there is a French window on the first floor of the left return that opens onto the roof of the single-storey left wing, which features a coped parapet and cornice below late 19th-century cast iron railings. The left return of this later wing, along with the rear, borders the east side of Sion Hill. The interior has not been inspected.
