Description
Middledean is a detached house dating from around 1840. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and dressed stone, with a Welsh slate roof and rendered stacks. The house follows a T-shaped plan. The front facade is two-storey and features three windows. A central four-panelled door, with a transom light, is situated within a classical porch supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters, and flanked by round-arched side-lights with margin panes. Above are three plate glass sash windows, each with louvred shutters. The deep eaves are carried on carved stone brackets. The right-hand return has a twelve-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors, and a moulded stone roundel in the attic. The left-hand return features a half-round bay with fifteen-pane sashes and French windows on the ground floor, and a twelve-pane sash window above. A two-storey rear wing is characterised by twelve-pane sashes and a hipped slate roof. Internally, the house has four-panelled doors, and reeded fireplace surrounds. The house occupies an important landscape position at the south end of the village.
