Description
No. 16 Sion Hill is a house located at the corner of Sion Hill, backing onto the road. It was built in two phases, with the western part dating from the late 18th century and the eastern part from the late 19th century. The materials used include squared limestone rubble for the 18th-century section and machine-cut ashlar for the 19th-century section. The house has a double-pitched roof with pantiles on the north slope.
The exterior features three storeys and a two-window front for the 18th-century block, which has a coped parapet and a dentilled cornice that returns to the garden front. The windows are six-over-six pane sash windows, with the left side windows being lower than those on the right, where the second-floor window includes a balconette. There are no windows on the ground floor of the street facade.
The interior has not been inspected, but a report from the Bath Preservation Trust Interiors Survey notes the preservation of several features, including stone stairs throughout, square section metal rails, and a mahogany handrail. The dining room contains alcoves and a plaster ceiling with later embellishments, although some items have been replaced with modern versions.
