Description
This is a house located at 9A Sion Hill, built around 1809. The structure features squared limestone rubble that is rendered on the ground floor and has a double-pitched slate roof with moulded stacks on the right side. The house is three storeys tall and has a three-window arrangement. On the second floor, there are two six-over-six pane sash windows, while the first floor has three four-over-four pane sashes, with the two on the right paired together. There is also one sash window on the right side of the ground floor, which includes some crown glass. An enclosed stone porch is slightly left of centre, supported by consoles that carry a moulded cornice. The rear windows were replaced with six-over-six and four-over-four pane sash windows in 1989.
Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have six-panel doors and a closed string staircase with turned balusters. Historical records indicate that this house was constructed in 1809 as an addition to an earlier house built around 1792, which was previously known as No. 6 Sion Place and first occupied by a widow named Mary Oates. The older east wing was demolished in the mid-20th century and rebuilt, and the house was divided into two separate units in 1972.
