Description
This is an early 19th-century gateway, originally belonging to the now-demolished Lye House. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the gateway features steps leading to a recessed planked door. Plain, baseless Doric columns, standing in an antis, rest on block bases which incorporate integral footscrapers. The capitals and abaci support a lintel with two recessed panels in the center. The design is an exceptionally severe example of Greek Doric architecture.
