Description

Glendoune is a symmetrical villa built around 1876, located at 996 Great Western Road in Glasgow. This two-storey building with an attic features a three-bay facade made of polished ashlar and has a painted porch. The centrally positioned paired Ionic porch includes a die and a balustrade parapet. The entrance has a tripartite doorpiece with a segmental fanlight, timber transoms and mullions, and leaded glazed panels on the door and sidelights. Above the door is an architraved single light window with a consoled cornice.

On the ground floor, canted windows are flanking the door and have a balustraded parapet. The first floor features architraved corniced tripartite windows, with a consoled cornice above the central light. The sash windows have plate glass glazing, while the ground floor windows are fitted with multi-pane glazing. A continuous band course runs above the ground floor, and there are continuous strings over the first floor lintels. The villa is topped with an elaborate bracketed timber cornice.

The east flank has single light windows, while the west flank includes a canted window on the ground floor to the left, which is corniced and has a balustraded parapet. Both flanks feature linked corniced wallhead stacks with octagonal flues that form an arch over the dormer window. The roof is piended and covered with slate.

The rear elevation is constructed of coursed stugged ashlar and has M-shaped roofs with tall wallhead stacks. There is a two-storey coursed ashlar domestic wing at the rear, accompanied by a single-storey garage with a piended roof to the west.

The property is enclosed by a low ashlar coped wall that supports cast-iron railings. There are two pairs of square ashlar corniced gatepiers, each adorned with elaborate wrought-iron gates featuring the monogram "IB."
