Description

52 Cleveden Drive is an asymmetrical villa built around 1887, featuring classical details and polished ashlar with a painted base course. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement. All windows are framed with stone architraves and include stone transoms and/or mullions, with plate glass sashes.

On the right side, steps lead down to a porch supported by paired Ionic columns, featuring a die balustrade and a pilastered doorpiece with double-leaf outer doors. The vestibule doors are tripartite and have painted glass panels.

To the left, there is an advanced bay with a canted balustraded window at the ground level and a pilastered pedimented window on the first floor. The villa has band courses above the ground floor, at the first floor cills, and at the eaves, along with a plain main cornice. The parapet of the advanced bay is interrupted by a tall bipartite pedimented dormer adorned with stone finials. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate, featuring a tall decorative corniced wallhead and axial stacks.

The flanks and rear of the building are finished in stugged ashlar. The east flank includes a single-storey and attic projecting service wing with piended roofs.

Inside, the villa has undergone significant alterations due to its conversion into flats around 1980, but some notable features remain, including good ceiling plasterwork and an arched hall screen. There is also a timber and cast-iron conservatory on the west side with a tessellated floor. The property is enclosed by a low coped ashlar wall with two pairs of square corniced gatepiers.
