Description

Kilgraston, located at 54 Cleveden Drive in Glasgow, is an asymmetrical villa built around 1893, featuring classical details. The building is two stories high and constructed from coursed stugged ashlar with polished margins, which has been stone cleaned. The central bay is taller and more advanced than the rest of the facade.

At the ground level, there is a paired Ionic porch topped with a modern balustraded parapet. The entrance features a tripartite architraved doorpiece with glazed sidelights. Above this, a corniced architraved sash window is set within a recessed panel of masonry. Most windows are single light sashes, except for a tripartite window on the right side at the first floor.

A band course runs over the first floor, and the eaves are deeply overhanging with timber brackets. The roof is piended and covered with slate, featuring tall corniced axial stacks. The west flank includes a tall tripartite stair window, while the garden front showcases an oriel window on both the ground and first floors. The centrally placed architraved doorpiece is topped with a broken segmental pediment. A terrace leads to the garden, featuring a retaining wall made of rock-faced ashlar and a balustraded parapet opposite the door.

Inside, the villa boasts good plaster cornice work in the galleried hall, which includes an Ionic arcade leading to the first floor. There is also notable figurative stained glass in the large stair window.
