Spring Bank, 253 North High Street, Musselburgh

Spring Bank, located at 253 North High Street in Musselburgh, is a villa built around 1840. This late classical building is two stories high and features a symmetrical three-bay design. The first floor is constructed of droved ashlar stone, while the ground floor is channelled, with polished ashlar dressings accentuating the structure.

The villa has advanced angle pilasters that include bases and entablatures. At the center, there is a distyle Ionic porch, which is topped with a balustraded balcony above an architraved and consoled corniced window. This window is flanked by two-storey, three-light canted bay windows. A band course runs along the first floor level, and a string course connects the first-floor cills to the balcony coping. The cornice, featuring a blocking course, aligns with those over the angle pilasters and bay windows. The windows are double-pane sash types, and the roof is piended and slated.

The forecourt is designed with corner piers, dwarf walls, and a central gateway. This gateway is marked by ball finialled monolithic obelisk gate piers that align with the dwarf walls.
