Description

11 Horslethill Road is a large asymmetrical double villa built around 1875, featuring polished ashlar and a droved or smooth rusticated basement. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with stepped irregular elevations to the northwest and east. It includes two-storey bows, a corbelled bow oriel, and projecting square windows, while most of the other windows are plain single light windows. The villa has plate glass sashes, with some upper sashes featuring leaded glass.

Access to the entrance is via steps with balustraded parapets leading to Roman Doric doorpieces. The entrance bay rises to a three-storey tower that features round-arched windows on the second floor. The doors are double-leaf and panelled, with vestibule doors that are tripartite and include leaded glass panels. There is a band-course at the first-floor cills and deeply overhanging timber bracketed eaves. The roofs are steeply pitched and swept with slate, and there are tall corniced axial and wallhead stacks with octagonal cans. A variety of dormer shapes are present, some with lead finials and others with roof brattishing. The rear of the building is finished in stugged ashlar.

Inside, the villa has been altered during its conversion to flats, but many original decorative features remain, including timber dado panelling, cornice and ceiling plasterwork, and a Corinthian column screen in the hall. The property is enclosed by a low droved or rendered coped boundary wall with two pairs of coped square ashlar gatepiers.
