Description

Nos. 2 and 4 on Bloomfield Road are a pair of early 19th-century houses located at the end of an incomplete terrace. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and have a roof covered in concrete tiles or slate. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and each features two windows. No. 2 has six-over-twelve pane windows, while the others are plain. To the right of each house is a six-panel door with a narrow transom light above, and there is a glazed lean-to over the basement window. The ground floor has a channelled finish, with a deep platband that supports paired Doric giant pilasters at each end. The second floor has a threaded sill band, and the paired end bays are slightly stepped forward. The entablature includes a blocking course that is slightly raised at the pilastered ends. The gables are coped and feature deep chimney stacks. The parapet returns to the right above a plain wall made of coursed and squared stone.

The houses have simple spiked railings across the frontage and returning at the right-hand end, set on a stone curb, but without gates. These houses were intended to be part of a larger terrace of twenty-one houses, but the matching pair and five others on the left side were never built.
