Description

31 and 33 Bloomfield Road are a pair of semi-detached villas built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and topped with a slate roof.

The villas feature a symmetrical, compact hipped main range with a cross wing that is set back at the gabled ends, providing entry. Each villa is two storeys high and has two plain sash windows. The first-floor windows on the main range are adorned with stone slab balconies supported by console brackets, and they have decorative cast iron railings. These windows sit above deep sashes that include floating cornices on brackets. Notably, No. 31 has scalloped valances on all its windows.

Each villa also has a sash window at both levels on the returns, located near the internal angle. The cross wing of No. 31 features a two-panelled door with a plain fan-light, which is set within a moulded arch that includes a keystone and an impost band across the width of the wing. The design includes deep plain eaves soffits, stone ridge and hip tiles, and a central ashlar stack, along with a rear eaves stack and small stacks on the end gables, which are partly external and have broad scroll offsets at the first-floor level.

The interior has not been inspected.
