Description
The barn at Lucas's, located approximately 40 metres to the west of the house, is a Grade II listed structure. This barn, currently used as a garage, was assembled in the 18th century but incorporates reused timbers from the 16th century. It features a five-bay timber frame set on a brick and sandstone plinth, with exposed framing made of thin scantling, except for a large jowled post on the south side. The barn includes diagonal tension braces and is infilled with cement render. The roof is half-hipped and covered with tiles. On the east side, there are exposed curved braces, three inserted mullioned windows, and a four-centred wooden door. The roof structure includes queen struts and clasped purlins. While most of the upright posts date from the 18th century, a few retain 16th-century gunstock jowels.
