Description

1 and 3 Denne Road is a building from the early 17th century, or possibly earlier, featuring equal projecting wings with gables at the ends of the front. The structure is timber-framed and has two storeys. The gabled front of the south wing displays close-studded timbering with plaster infilling, while the rest of the building is partly stuccoed, and the north end (No 40 East Street) is roughcast. The ground floor is finished in painted brick. No 3 has a Horsham slab roof, while the rest of the building is tiled. Both end gables feature moulded and pierced barge-boards.

No 3 includes two panels at first floor level, one displaying a Tudor rose and the other providing a history of the building. There are four windows in total, including a three-light bay window on the ground floor of No 3. Most windows are sash, although the glazing bars are missing for No 40 East Street. No 3 also has a lean-to porch with a six-panel door, though the upper two panels have been removed and replaced with glazing. No 40 East Street has a modern shop front. Nos 1 and 3 are part of a group with Nos 40 to 50 (even) East Street.
