Description
Nos 4 to 8 on Princess Street, dating from the early 19th century, are three-storey buildings constructed of red brick with a gable end pantile roof. The upper floors feature three sash windows, some with glazing bars, and flat brick arches. On the ground floor, No 4 has a small double shop front with a half-glazed door, a moulded frame, and brackets flanking a frieze and cornice above. The house door of No 4 has six fielded panels and a semi-circular fanlight with a Gothic glazing pattern. The door to No 6 also has six fielded panels, a blocked fanlight, and a hood supported by thin moulded scroll brackets, with a broken cornice and open pediment. This door leads to a passage with an inner door to No 8. Although No 10, which is a single bay, is a late 19th-century alteration, it is unobtrusive and does not affect the overall group. All listed buildings on the north side from Nos 2 to 30 create a cohesive architectural group.
