Description
Nos 21 and 23 Sandside are a late 18th-century building that has been significantly altered. The structure consists of three storeys and an attic, with a stucco finish, bands between the storeys, a broad cornice, and a parapet, although the parapet of No 23 is made of modern brick. The roofs are covered with pantiles. The west front of No 21 features three early 19th-century sash windows with intact glazing bars, a small canted wooden bay, and a shop front on the ground floor. The central door has four flush panels and is framed by an architrave case with a cornice supported by console brackets. The return front has one window on each floor, all of which have been altered. No 23 has three windows on its south front, with one original sash window on the left side of the upper floors, while the other windows have been replaced with modern bow windows. The ground floor has modern shop fronts that extend to the east front, replacing pilastered ground floor windows. The buildings are listed for their group value, as they are part of a group that includes Nos 21 to 26 Sandside.
