Description
No. 2 Quay Street is a building dating from the 15th or 16th century. It has two storeys and an attic, constructed with a timber frame and roughcast infilling. The gable end faces the street and features an oversailing attic supported by curved brackets and a large corner post, which likely supports a dragon beam. The eaves on the side elevation also display curved brackets and shaped beam ends. The roof is covered with pantiles.
The south entrance front includes one attic casement window and two first-floor windows that are modern replacements for 18th-century sashes. There is a restored early 19th-century bow window on the ground floor with a frieze and cornice, consisting of seven panes by five panes. The entrance features a six-panel house door. The side elevation has renewed casement windows.
Inside, the building has hammer head wall posts, and the roof contains a ridge piece, while the principal tie beam has been removed from the centre. Although the exterior is roughcast, the structure appears to be built on a stone base. No. 2 Quay Street forms a group with No. 4.
