Description

26, 26A, and 27 Carfax is a 17th century timber-framed building with a plastered front, located on the east side of Carfax. The north wall reveals visible timber-framing in the adjoining passage. The first floor overhangs on curved brackets, although modern shop fronts have been added beneath it. The building features a hipped roof made of Horsham slabs and stands two storeys tall. It has four windows, three of which are casement windows, while the fourth is an enlarged sash window that extends through the eaves like a dormer. This building is part of a group that includes the Central Market and Nos 25A, 26, 26A, and 27.
