Description

Nos 5 and 6 on East Street is a late 19th-century building designed in a late Gothic style. It stands three storeys tall with an attic and features five bays. The building has gables over the end and centre bays, each containing one window. The stonework is coursed, and there are carved bands above the first and ground floors. At the western end, there is a two-sided, five-light bay that projects through all three storeys. The second floor has windows arranged in one tier, with two-light windows in the second, third, and fourth bays from the west, and a four-light window in the easternmost bay.

On the first floor, there are oriel windows in the third and fifth bays from the west, with two tiers of four and five lights respectively. Gargoyles are positioned above the windows, and crenellated parapets adorn the roofline. In the second and fourth bays on the first floor, there are windows with two tiers, featuring two and four lights respectively, with square heads and dripstones above. The ground floor includes three windows, one of which is a large seven-light window to the east. There are also two four-centred arched doorways, with the easternmost doorway set in a square-headed archway that has a decorated spandrel. Nos 5 and 6 were constructed on the site of the former Swan Inn.
