Originally, early C19 front to an older timber-framed core which was visible in passageway to north; passageway has since been filled in to become part of the shop, wall above this rebuilt and modern shop front inserted on ground floor. Front above ground floor more or less all that remains of original building. 3 storeys. Slate roof; large modern eaves cornice with modillions. Red brick front. 3 windows. Sash windows in reveals in flat arches with glazing bars intact and painted brick voussoirs; double sash windows on first floor.

The Market House, Technical Institute and Nos 83 to 87 (consec) form a group.
