Description
Nos. 84 and 84A on Barton Street is a house in a row with a shop, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, built on earlier 17th century fabric. The front is rendered and features a low-pitched slate roof, while the rear and wing are framed with horizontal boarding on the outer gable, a tiled roof, and a brick stack. The building is L-shaped, with three storeys and two windows. It has 4-pane sash windows in exposed boxes on wooden cills. The shop front, dating from the 20th century, is set within 19th century pilasters and consoles, topped with a small cornice mould, and has aluminium doors on either side. The eaves are boxed, and there is a stack to the right. The rear features a steeply pitched tiled slope above a rendered wall with a two-light casement window on the second floor to the left. Inside the throughway, there are three large chamfered beams. At the back of the shop, there is a section of braced square panel framing that has been opened up. The wing, known as No. 84A, has square panel framing on both walls and various small casement windows.
