Description

This is a house in a row, with two shops, dating to the 17th century or earlier, with alterations in the mid-to-late 18th century. The building has a timber-frame structure, but the front is rendered, and it is roofed with tiles. The small scale of the building and the steep roof to the front range, which runs parallel to the street and is hidden behind a high parapet, suggest it is an early structure.

The building is two storeys high and has a two-window front. It contains small, square, two-light windows with horizontal bars dating to the 19th century. The ground floor has two separate entry doors, along with flanking shop fronts. To the left of the door is a substantial jetty bracket. A stack is located on the back left, rising from a long, sloping roof that includes a three-light gabled dormer. The rear of the property features two dormer windows and one rooflight. A lofty gable stack sits to the right. The right half of the building extends into a long wing constructed of painted brick with a tile roof, featuring a large structural post visible externally. This wing has a variety of early casements, including an 18th-century gabled dormer window. A large square stack is at the outer gable. A lower extension has a two-light 19th-century dormer. At ground floor level, this extension features a 12-pane fixed window from the 18th century, and a 19th-century part-glazed door.

The interior of the ground floors was inspected. On the left side, the shop has a deep bressumer beam to a corner post, corresponding to the jetty post in the entry. The joists are early. On the right side, the front shop has a large transverse beam and a large boxed beam located at the front bressumer position. The middle room has a further beam supported by wall posts, while the rear room contains a large chamfered beam.
