Description
No. 153 High Street is a house with a shop, rebuilt in the early to mid-18th century from an earlier structure. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. The front block has a hipped roof and a deep right-angle plan; while this front block was rebuilt in the 18th century, there is a lower rear range that is timber-framed with brick panels, raised in brick. The building has three storeys and two windows. The plain sashes are set in exposed boxes with brick voussoirs and stone cills. The window-heads at both levels are depressed towards the centre of the facade, indicating early settlement, although the surrounding brickwork remains intact. The ground floor showcases a full-width late 19th-century pilaster shop front, featuring a recessed glazed door located off-centre to the left and a plain fascia supported by small console brackets. The hipped roof is adorned with a moulded wood eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
