Description

Nos. 1 and 2 Barton Street comprise a pair of houses in a row. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, with a front façade dating to the mid to late 18th century. The front is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, and the roof is not visible. The houses are three storeys high and have a 1+1-window arrangement. The windows are 4-pane sashes set within exposed boxes, each with a brick voussoir surround, a central fluted key, a cornice, and stone sills. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts. A rebuilt parapet contains a weathered date stone, which is too worn to decipher. The interior has not been inspected. No. 1 is now part of No. 156 High Street.
