Description
This is a house in a row, originally with a shop, built in the 17th century and significantly altered in the mid to late 18th century. The front facade is painted brickwork, concealing a timber-frame structure, and has a tiled roof and brick stacks. The building is three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has three windows on each floor. Behind a high parapet is a flat-roofed dormer. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes with exposed boxes, each set within a brick arch decorated with fluted keystones; the central windows have more elaborate decorative keys, and the central window on the second floor is blocked. The ground floor features a full-width, 19th-century shop front with three square panes, and a recessed entrance door positioned slightly to the left. On either side of the doorway, within the stall riser, are elliptical-headed openings that previously provided access to the basement. The left-hand return gable shows exposed timber framing with horizontal rails and narrow panels. The slightly projecting right-hand gable reveals tie and collar beams, and a tall brick stack is visible at the rear eaves. A smaller, cropped brick stack is on the right-hand gable. The interior has not been inspected.
