Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of three properties on Tarrant Street. The building is constructed of beach flint, with the north elevation having a stucco finish. It is two storeys high, topped by a parapet with a rendered coping that conceals the roof. The first floor contains four double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in plain reveals. Numbers 55 and 57 both have projecting shop fronts. The front door of number 55 is partly glazed, incorporating two moulded panels. It is set within deep reveals and a doorcase featuring two reeded pilasters and a reeded architrave, with a plain cornice and convex paterae on the capitals. The doors to numbers 55A and 57 are also partly glazed with glazing bars, featuring two moulded panels and a semi-circular fanlight above. Both have two limestone steps leading up to them. Numbers 43 to 57 (odd), along with the wall between numbers 49 and 51, form a group.
