Description
This is an early 19th century terrace of properties located on East Street in New Alresford. The buildings are constructed from a combination of flint, brick, and slate. The terrace comprises two storeys, with one window visible in each unit. The walls are now painted, but the brickwork is laid in a Flemish bond pattern. Numbers 34 and 36 feature flint walling, accompanied by brick quoins and vertical bands, with rubbed flat arches over the slightly cambered ground-floor openings. The windows are sash windows set within reveals. The upper sashes are exposed at numbers 36 and 40, while number 44 has a more modern upper casement window. Number 32 has a shopfront featuring a rectangular bay with a moulded cornice and a frieze. Numbers 40 and 42 have modern, angular bays with cornices, and number 44’s angular bay is topped with a tiled canopy extending over the doorway. Original doorways are present at numbers 40 and 42, featuring a thin open pediment supported by scroll brackets, thin pilasters, and a six-panelled door. Numbers 34, 36, and 38 have plain doorways, while number 44 has a modern panelled door. The rear of the terrace includes tile-hung walls, slate roofs, and single-storeyed outshots. The east gable has brick nogging over light framing. The west gable, facing Brandy Mount, is constructed of flint with brick dressings, a rounded corner, and slate-hung gable.
