Description

The Brewery is a mid-19th century building. The main block is constructed of beach flint with red brick dressings and stringcourses, and has a pitched tile roof. It is three storeys high, with maltings in the attics. The east elevation features two ranges of casement windows with glazing bars, and a planked loading door on the second floor. The south elevation is hidden by a later addition, and the west elevation is largely obscured by outbuildings, although two segment-headed windows are visible on the second floor. A louvred clerestory with a hipped tile roof is located at the roof crest. Gabled dormers are present on the east and west sides, featuring pitched tile roofs, tile-hung sides, and fronts that are partly louvred and partly glazed. The roofline, with its louvred gables and clerestory, makes a prominent contribution to the town’s skyline.
