Description
This is an early 19th-century terrace of six houses, numbered 10 to 16 Washington Street. It stands immediately adjacent to number 9, but has a lower frontage and ridge line. The terrace comprises two storeys, with each house featuring one window, except for number 10 which has two. The construction is primarily flint with sharp flints, accented by red brick quoins and dressings, and incorporates vertical red brick lacing courses between each pair of houses. The sash windows are set within reveals and framed by slightly segmental arches, with intact glazing bars. Each house has a round-headed doorway, leading to a six-panel moulded door (five panels at number 10). The top panels of the door at number 12 are cut away. Blocked semi-circular fanlights are situated above the doorways of numbers 10 to 12; numbers 13 to 16 have semi-circular fanlights with tracery. Number 10 features an additional door within a slightly segmental arch at its eastern end. Numbers 1 to 18 and 22 to 40 Washington Street are grouped together for their group value.
