Description
The New Inn Hotel, located at No 5 Norfolk Road and including No 18 Western Road, is an early 19th-century building. It is two storeys high with two windows and features a stuccoed front set on a modern tiled base. The building has a cornice and parapet with a central panel. The windows are glazing bar sash types, with three-light bow windows on the first floor.
There is a small porch with a flat entablature that includes a segmental arch and keystone. The doorway features a rectangular fanlight, a six-panelled moulded door, and panelled reveals. The north front on Western Road has five windows and an attic, with slightly cambered arches above the glazing bar sashes. The building has cobbles with brick dressings and quoins, along with a two-storey extension that includes No 18 Western Road, which has three windows. This extension also features cobbles with brick dressings, vertical strips, and a modillion cornice, with glazing bar sashes on the first floor and a margined glazing bar sash on the ground floor to the left. There is a later entrance and shop window to the right. The eastern gable end is constructed in English bond with red brick and grey headers.
Nos 3 and 5 Norfolk Road and Nos 18 to 24 (even) Western Road form a group, with No 3 Norfolk Road being of local interest.
