Description

The Ship Hotel is an early 19th-century building located on Church Street. It stands three storeys tall and features a pantile roof. The left side of the building is stuccoed and has four sash windows, some of which retain glazing bars. There is a bay window on the first floor to the right of the centre, which has curved sides and sash windows with glazing bars, along with a cornice and a decorated frieze. The ground floor has an early 19th-century public house front with an entablature and a moulded cornice, although it has modern windows and doors. The right side of the building projects with a rounded corner and is constructed of painted brick, featuring paired brackets at the eaves soffit. This side also has three storeys and four sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a small Victorian shop window and a wide modern vehicular entrance to the right. The rear of the building is made of flint with brick dressings. The Ship Hotel is part of a group with Nos 51, 51A, and 53.
