Description
Nos 37 and 39 on Western Road are early 19th-century buildings. No 37 was formerly the Carpenters (Surrey) Arms and still has a skittle alley at the rear. The buildings are two storeys high with a mansard roof, each featuring one sash window. The first floor of No 37 is slate hung with flush framed windows and dividing brick pilaster strips, while the ground floor is made of brick. Both buildings have been converted but still retain their former shop windows. No 39 includes glazing bars and a blocked radiating fanlight above the door, as well as one dormer window. Nos 37 to 51 (odd), the garden walls to the east of No 51, and Nos 30 to 36 (even) form a group.
